Laguna Gloria is The Contemporary Austin's lakeside site, about five miles from downtown on Lake Austin. It pairs an Italian-style villa with grounds full of outdoor sculpture, which gives us a backdrop that feels nothing like a typical event venue. It is also a working museum, and that shapes how the day runs.

The villa and the grounds
The Driscoll Villa is the anchor. Its front steps, green-striped awnings and terrace are the backdrops we reach for first, and the museum lists the first-floor Ballroom and Tea Room as interior spaces for photos.
The grounds sit on the lake under large trees, with sculptures placed throughout. We plan shots around the art rather than through it, and the museum asks that no one touch artwork unless it is labeled interactive.

Getting ready and portraits
The museum's photo guidelines say hair and makeup must be done off site, with only a non-private dressing area in the second-floor Villa restroom. Plan to get ready at a hotel or home and arrive dressed, then start coverage there.
If you want bridal or engagement portraits here before the wedding, the museum books photo sessions by appointment and makes them complimentary for confirmed wedding clients. Sessions check in at the Moody Pavilions Visitor Center. A pre-wedding session is also a good way for us to scout light and angles on the grounds.

Planning an evening here
A May 2026 couple planned a roughly 6:00 to 11:00 PM evening for about 150 guests, styled as a garden party with family-style dinner, a full bar and mocktails. Their planner noted the venue does not supply rentals, so tables, chairs and the rest come in through the planner or caterer.
With a 6:00 start, the ceremony and cocktail hour fall in the last stretch of daylight. Ask your planner to schedule couple portraits by the villa and the water before dinner, because once dinner starts the light is gone.
- Rentals and site tours are booked through the museum's Rentals Department.
- Portrait sessions on non-wedding days do not include on-site parking.
