Filming a wedding at Villa at the Vineyard

Jake McDonald6 min read

Villa at the Vineyard is a 12 acre vineyard estate on FM 967 in Driftwood, built around a 5,000 square foot Great Hall hung with 20 antique chandeliers from Italian villas. Inside it feels like an old ballroom. Outside it is rows of vines and open Hill Country, and a good day here uses both.

The Great Hall and the ceremony sites

The venue lists three ceremony sites: the Great Hall itself, a 2,500 square foot Vineyard Venue, and the Arbor Garden Lawn paired with a courtyard. The Great Hall holds up to 250 to 300 guests, and the Arbor Garden suits groups under 100.

The hall is a big, tall room, and those chandeliers carry a lot of the look at night. On our October wedding the couple brought in ceiling drapery, which a team installed the day before over about four hours. If you want that look, plan for setup time outside your wedding day.

Getting ready

The upstairs suite has a living room with a gown display and a salon with four hair and makeup stations, plus private bathrooms. The groom's side gets a study and a billiards balcony upstairs.

Our couple had doors open at 10:00 AM for beauty and family, then did their first look and read vows to each other once photo and video coverage started at 2:00 PM. Family notes for the ceremony were staged in the bridal suite and handed to the officiant before the 4:30 PM start.

Use the venue's Tuesday planning hours to walk the ceremony site with your photographer and videographer before the day.

Cocktail hour, dinner and portraits

After the ceremony the bar opened outside on the patio for cocktail hour while formal photos happened. At 5:45 PM guests were ushered inside, and the bartenders moved in with them for a plated dinner at 6:00 PM.

Sunset that October evening was 7:15 PM. The photographer stole the couple at 7:00 PM for portraits, then toasts and dances started at 7:20 PM. That order kept the light for portraits and left the dance floor open the rest of the night.

Hours, shuttles and the exit

The standard rental is ten hours, 2:00 PM to midnight, with custom and additional hours available. Booked couples also get Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 6:00 PM to bring vendors and measure, which helps a lot with planning camera positions.

This couple ran an early shuttle at 8:00 PM and three more at the end of the night. The exit at 10:00 PM used cold sparks out front.
