The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is the botanic garden of Texas, part of the University of Texas at Austin, and it opens to private events after the public leaves for the day. Native gardens, stone walls and a hacienda style courtyard make it one of the most textured places we film in Austin. It also comes with rules that shape the whole timeline, so it pays to know them early.

The spaces
The standard evening rental covers the Great Hall, the Courtyard and the theme gardens for up to 150 guests. The Courtyard has festoon lighting and seats 150. The Great Hall has wood floors, stone accents and a full wall of windows looking out on the Savanna Meadow. Cecille's Arch is a limestone arch under live oaks that leads to the meadow and seats 75 for a ceremony.
On the June evening we filmed, cocktail hour ran in the Butterfly Garden with drinks passed along the path as guests arrived, dinner was inside, and everyone moved out to the Courtyard for the first dance with the band and a two step lesson.
Timing around public hours
The Center closes to the public at 5 PM, and evening rentals run 4 PM to midnight, including setup and breakdown. Daytime weddings are limited to Cecille's Arch. On our day the timeline showed access to the indoor dining space from 10 AM, the loading dock opened at 2:30 PM, and outdoor setup began at 3:00 PM. Confirm exactly which spaces and times are in your contract.
Our couple married at a church at 2:00 PM, did group photos there, and the wedding party arrived by shuttle at 3:50. Formal photos on the grounds started at 4:05, before guests arrived. The Center is open to the public until 5 PM, so expect visitors in the background of anything shot before then.
Rules that affect the plan
Amplified music, inside or out, ends at 11 PM and cannot exceed 75 decibels at the property line. Third party tents are not allowed. The venue also prohibits sparklers, confetti, flower petals, streamers, glitter, balloons and animals other than service animals. So the exit needs a different idea, and the rain plan has to use buildings. The Center includes a rain plan for up to 150 guests: the Great Hall for a ceremony or reception, and the Auditorium, with tiered seating, as a ceremony space.
For your photographer and videographer
Couples marrying here get a complimentary photo session on the grounds before the wedding, scheduled with the events team. Any other professional shoots follow the Center's photo and video policies. We pulled our couple for sunset photos right after the salad course at 7:00 PM, and it was worth stepping away from dinner for.
