The Bullock Museum sits on North Congress Avenue, minutes from the Capitol, and it is a building with a lot of vertical space. The Rotunda's spiral staircase and terrazzo floor give us angles most ballrooms cannot. It also runs on museum hours, which shapes the whole day.

Timing starts with museum hours
The museum is open to the public until 5:00, and rentals run for four hours between 5:30 PM and midnight, with two more hours for load-out. Standard vendor access to the building and loading dock starts at 3:00. Earlier load-in needs approval and costs extra, and vendors are asked to keep noise down until the public leaves.
That means getting ready and, often, the ceremony happen somewhere else. At a May wedding we filmed, the couple married at a church about ten minutes away and the museum hosted the reception. Guests headed to the museum for cocktail hour while we stayed behind for portraits, and the wedding party followed by shuttle.
Cocktail hour in the Rotunda
Guests arrived to a string trio in the Rotunda, passed bites and an open bar. The couple ate privately on the second floor while the wedding party joined cocktail hour, then made their grand entrance down the stairs.
Film the entrance from below and from the upper level if you can. The staircase is the defining shot here, and the second floor gives a clean overhead view of the terrazzo mosaic.
Reception, toasts and the after party
Dinner ran as stations with a jazz band, then the band took over at 8:30 once first dances were done. In May the sun set around 8:10, well after guests were inside, so plan any outdoor portraits on the Lone Star Plaza before cocktail hour ends.
The send-off happened at 10:30 with guests lining the stairs, and the party then moved up to the Austin Room on the third floor with a DJ. Decide ahead of time how long you want us at the after party, because shuttles loop back to hotels through midnight.
Spaces and rules
The museum lists the Grand Lobby, the second-floor Atrium overlooking the Rotunda, the Austin Room and the outdoor Lone Star Plaza under the bronze star for weddings. Ceremonies can happen in the Lobby, the Atrium or on the Plaza.
- Catering, bartending and audio-visual must go through the museum's designated partners. Other vendors are open.
- There is an underground parking garage on site, and the building has easy access for vans and buses.
- Exhibition gallery access during a rental is available for an added charge.
- The Capitol Mall out front works for an exit photo with the Capitol behind you.
